The collection includes two volumes (1888-1903) of by-laws and minutes, 1980s centennial committee correspondence, and historical research files. Also included are photocopies of minutes, advertising, press releases, and other documentation on Liquid Carbonic, manufacturer of Diamond Brand Liquid Gas; its founder Jacob Baur; and other companies that combined with it over the years, including Liquid Carbonic Canada and Buckeye Oxygen Company (Canton, Ohio). Topics include products and machinery made and distributed by the companies, including carbon dioxide gas in pressurized cylinders, soda fountains often installed in drug stores, fruit syrup, dry ice, bottling equipment; preparation of text and illustrations for The Liquid Story, 1888-1988: A History of Liquid Carbonic's First Hundred Years, by Donna Steigerwald; and arrangements for the centennial celebration under the direction of the committee chaired by H.D.   • Biographical or Historical Note Firm founded in 1888; became a public corp. with the name: Liquid Carbonic Corporation in July 1926; in 1957, Liquid Carbonic became a division of General Dynamics Corp.; in 1969, Liquid Carbonic became part of Houston Natural Gas Corporation; in 1984, Houston Natural Gas Corp. sold Liquid Carbonic to CBI Industries and administration of Liquid Carbonic remained in the Chicago area; in 1996, it was acquired by Praxair, Inc.
