  • Collection summary Cased photographs of mostly unidentified friends and relatives of the Grannis family related to Uri Balcomb (Uriah Balcom), who was a businessman who made his fortune primarily in lumber. One image is an ambrotype view of a lumberyard. Balcomb's adopted daughter (his wife's niece) married W.C.D. Grannis, who became the president of Union National Bank in Chicago in 1882. One photograph is of three men sitting with their hands on each others shoulders; a label on the back says the man on the left is "Grandfather Grannis," most likely W.C.D. Grannis.
