  • Collection summary Correspondence, financial records, memoranda, and administrative documents relating to Vinton W. Bacon's tenure as general superintendent of the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago. Bacon's attempts to fight corruption, political patronage, and scandals were the center of much controversy during the 1960s and apparently resulted in his attempted assassination in 1966. He was fired in 1970. Much of the collection relates to these incidents, including correspondence in support of and against Bacon's actions.
