  • Collection summary Primarily includes visual materials relating to the South Shore community in Chicago (Ill.) and the South Shore Historical Society. Includes views of apartment houses and single family houses, streetscapes, railroad stations, and businesses. Some images show the South Shore Country Club and people engaged in activities that may have taken place there, such as playing polo. Includes some views of Lake Michigan beaches, Calumet River and harbor, and views of Jackson Park at the lake. Slides show views of the community and the country club. A few slides show a demonstration in a park with people displaying "Stop the Nazis" banners (ca. 1970s). Also includes slides and photoprints relating to the Illinois Department of Labor that show minorities and people with disabilities in labor situations (ca. 1960-1979). Albums show the construction of the Robie House in Chicago (Ill.), designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Oak Woods Cemetery. One color film shows the Railroad Fair (1949).
