Jerome A. Gross papers, ca. 1940-1995 (Chicago History Museum) plus a detailed description, date, and box/folder number of a specific item.

Journals (1953-1994), correspondence (1957-1991), photographs, and other papers of Jerome A. Gross, who was a veteran, a graduate of the University of Chicago, and a gay man who died from complications resulting from HIV in 1995. The bulk of the collection is comprised of journals and correspondence that document the daily activities of Gross, mostly in Chicago, and begin when he was a college student. Some correspondence relates to the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington (D.C.), where he worked for a while, and to the Boston chapter of the Association of Hungarian Students of North America (Északamerikai Magyar Egyetemisták és Főiskolások Egyesületeinek Szövetsége). The photographs are mostly black and white images of various locations and people (ca. 1940-1970).

Jerome A. Gross worked for the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, D.C., and for the Illinois Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.

The collection is arranged in three series.

Series 1. Correspondence, 1957-1991 (box 1-7)

Series 1 consists of correspondence between Jerome A. Gross and his friends and family. Also included is correspondence with the Office of Secretary of Defense and the Boston Association of Hungarian Students, which Gross led in the early 1950s.

Series 2. Journals, 1953-1995 (box 8-14)

Series 2 consists of typed personal journals with daily entries that discuss Gross's interests, conversations, and activities. The journals begin when Gross was attending the University of Chicago and continue almost until his death in 1995.

Series 3. Photographs, ca.1940-1970 (box 15)

Series 3 consists of an assortment of black and white photographs of people and locations including a photograph of army recruits (ca. 1944).
