  • Collection summary View of the Calumet-Sag Channel under construction. The view is taken down the center of the channel and This image was probably taken near Blue Island, Illinois. Construction began in 1911 and the channel was completed in 1922. It was intended to shift the flow of the Little Calumet, Grand Calumet, and their tributaries and sewage from Lake Michigan to the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in the Des Plaines River valley.
