- Collection summary Photographs of the interiors of 3 Chicago area steel mills taken by or for the Birdsboro Steel Foundry and Machine Company (Birdsboro, Pa.) showing machinery manufactured by Birdsboro. Photographs (9 items, ca. 1930) show the interior of the Illinois Steel Company in the South Chicago neighborhood of Chicago (Ill.). Another photograph (ca. 1960) shows the interior of the United States Steel Corp. South Works mill, also in South Chicago. More photographs (16 items, ca. 1960) show the interior of the Republic Steel Corp. tube sizing mill in South Chicago. Views primarily show heavy steel mill machinery, but steel workers are sometimes visible. Each photograph is adhered to a canvas album page with a label on the verso listing a description of the machinery pictured, name of the steel mill, and the equipment order numbers.
