  • Collection summary Correspondence, biographical materials, newspaper clippings, financial materials, printed materials, contracts, and other papers of Clarence "Pants" Rowland, manager of the Chicago White Sox baseball team (1915-1918), and owner, manager, umpire, and executive of other teams over the years. Correspondence is mostly between Rowland and Philip K. Wrigley and William Wrigley (ca. 1940-1960). Topics include the Los Angeles Baseball Club, life insurance, game attendance, raising box prices, game schedules, uniforms, training, and cost cutting. Also included is correspondence regarding buying war bonds on behalf of the Pacific Coast Baseball League, thank you notes, and fan mail. Newspaper clippings mostly relate to Rowland, players, leagues, and keeping players out of the draft (1954-1955). Printed materials include statistic booklets, programs, and a 1915 annual tour booklet. Also included are statements to the press, game attendance statistics, comparative figures for seasons 1942 and 1943, and the 1961 constitution of the Association of Professional Ball Players of America. A scrapbook of newspaper clippings and photographs is also present.
